Ciara (2:11, 33.1MB)

Teaching Points:

  • No underhook against Liam, should have grabbed his support arm
  • Dropping head on underhooks, losing posture! (Joey pulls out of her, compensating for poor technique with bulk)
  • Hesitant towards the end, but fatigue makes cowards of us all. Andy makes several mistakes with the whizzer throw (all arms, wrong hip placement) but Ciara’s too tired to re centre.

Positives:

  • Keeps elbows tight throughout, gets underhooks easily
  • Tenacious, consistent. Consistency will lead to big dividends the longer you train. If you keep showing up, and putting the work in, improvements and success are inevitable. An athlete with low natural talent who trains consistently will overtake a natural athlete who trains sporadically.

Graeme (2:57, 44.5MB)

Teaching Points:

  • Too straight, no knee bend: this becomes really evident against a technically tight wrestler like Andy
  • Backs away against bigger opponents like Joey or Thomas
  • Doesn’t grab the far arm in the whizzer attempt against Joey (it takes him a lot to finish the takedown)

Positives:

  • Great constant forward pressure with the hips, so much so that he compensates for how high he is
  • Remains clam, breathing normally throughout – as a result his technique doesn’t break down over the course of the round
