The best thing you can do to not get caught in a guillotine is to keep your posture and make sure you’ve a gap between your opponent and you. Looking towards the ground instead of straight ahead is one way you’ll end up in trouble.
If caught:
- Turn your chin into your opponent’s ribcage
- Use your near hand to pull down on his guillotining arm: you’re not trying to reef his hand away, moreso relief pressure.
- Reach over your opponents shoulder with your other arm
Nest step is to push forward so your opponent is on his back. Tripod your body (stand up on your feet sticking your butt high in the air) so that your neck is straight.
With your high arm, you can either reach further around and work for a shoulder of justice style pressure on his neck, or you can reach for a dumbass choke. The shoulder of justice is safe for you but puts less pressure on your opponent. The dumbass choke will put more pressure on your opponent but gives him the opportunity to switch to another sub.
Here’s the shoulder of justice style pressure:
Here’s the dumbass choke pressure:
The key thing once you’ve set this structure is to wait. If you look to pull your neck free you’ll feel it later on. You can also inadvertently tighten the choke by trying to pull your head free.
