Spartan MMA - Mark catches a triangle

Mark & Conor (2:05, 17.9MB):

Conor shouldn’t be as determined to hold closed guard, instead he should be more aggressive. When Mark sits up, it was a perfect opportunity to let go and go for a shoot/body lock.

Mark sets up a nice triangle from mount and keeps it on as Conor scrambles. Usually Mark’s stubbornness is annoying :) but this is a good example of when to hold onto a sub attempt.

Dan & Stee (3:51, 33.3MB):

Stee’s tendency to lean forward is a product of his early days when he was overly arm dependent. He never corrected this and has actually built a game around it, but it has it’s limitations. You can see him try to control Dan with his arms before he’s fully passed guard and ends up in a lengthly half guard battle.

Dan should have switched to a butterfly guard when he’d underhooks on Stee. Dan lets his knees stray away from his chest (may be a flexibility issue?) and also is very passive in guard when Stee stands up. Dan does well to get the lockdown and underhook when underneath half guard but doesn’t shrimp out. Because his hips are flat he can only force a stalemate. Dan also switches his lockdown, which reduces it’s effectiveness.

Kev & Colm (4 mins, 34.5MB):
