Matt fought and won in the Under 68Kg Novice division of the NSC 2008 last Saturday.
I didn’t get to see many of Matt’s matches but every time I did get the opportunity to corner him his athleticism, composure, and creativity helped him through. He responded well to cornering, which is a fantastic indicator of a great athlete.
Matt had to qualify 1st from his pool in order to be in contention for medals. He fought Paul Cowzer, of Rush MMA, who’s fought Pro-MMA, in his ’semi final’. Matt was under a bit of pressure, but he stayed sharp, and even nailed him with a tasty slam late in the match. Paul Cowzer lost his next match to Patrick Holohan, of SBG.
In the ‘final’, Matt picked up a deadleg, so it showed incredible determination to keep fighting and pushing the action. After he tried the rolling arm triangle a few times, Matt gave one last burst of energy and caught a sweet rear naked choke.
Well done dude! Matt’s now looking for an MMA fight. Let’s see him take his skills to the cage!
