Here’s a unique submission that doesn’t over rotate the shoulder. In fact, you are actually pulling the joint out of the shoulder socket in this one.
From Side control…
Kevin tries for an underhook with his right arm.Instead of bringing my left hand back to my near hip (which, if Kev did get an underhook is the sensible thing to do) I trap his wrist with my left hand and push down to keep it there/force it back to the mat.
With my right hand I overhook Kev’s arm and grab his wrist. In the photo I’ve taken my left hand away so you can see it clearly, but there’d be no need to do this in a competitive setting.
I reach underneath Kev’s arm with my left hand and catch my right elbow. I then work to bring my elbows together by crawling my right hand up onto my left shoulder. Some people can get a submission here by forearm crush (much like a bicep slicer). It’s important to get your right forearm in contact with your opponent’s arm. If you pushing down at your wrist, it can be incredibly painful for you.
Once I’ve this secure and as tight as I can make it, I walk around Kev’s head until my hips are on the same side as the arm I’m attacking.
To finish the submission, I turn my stomach upward while pulling on Kev’s arm, while lying on his shoulder.
The video didn’t record too well soundwise so I’ve no vid of this technique I’m afraid.
