Sprawl N Brawl Lite is a new concept I’m working on.
The original concept of SNB is to get you mentally ready for fighting in a show. With Sprawl N Brawl, you have to keep fighting for the win, despite the fact that the odds are heavily, heavily stacked against you, and you’re getting a fresh opponent every 30 seconds or so. If you keep pushing for the win in a training situation like this, you’re mental fortitude will stand to you in competition.
Sprawl N Brawl does have a good few drawbacks, so other training drills are needed, which I’ll upload over the next few weeks. One of the major drawbacks is that your entry into the clinch and shooting can get sloppy, and then you’re reinforcing those bad habits over the course of the 4-6 week lead in to your fight.
With SNB Lite, we vary the aggressiveness of the striker and how ardently they defend the takedown. In this video, we froze the striker when Rob is shooting/entering the clinch. I gave Rob periodic commands, either “shoot“, “crash“, or “go“. At this point the striker stops until Rob has made contact, whereby they resume fighting. The aim of this is to reinforce good shooting and safe clinch entry everytime.
The drill has some bugs to fix, but I think it is a useful training tool.
Post any thoughts about the video to comments.
