As I say in the video, there are three pressures you can exert on your opponent from guard:
- The threat of a submission
- The threat of a sweep
- The threat of standing up
The last one – just standing up – is the least used of the three. Maybe it’s because it’s just not considered as much, but it’s a viable option. Particularly if you’re faster/stronger in the scramble.
The submission from this, which I learnt as the drop guillotine, and thanks to Andy from UCD via Australia, briefly became known as The Riley Choke. Turns out it’s more commonly known as the Peruvian Necktie.
