Starting next Monday, with the schedule changes, we’ll have a new Fundamentals class for all beginners.

The Fundamentals class will help beginners ease into MMA. For many, starting in a new club can be daunting, especially if everyone seems to know each other and they all seem so much better than you. It’s our hope that the Fundamentals class will make it easier to take up Mixed Martial Arts and get up to speed with the positions, movements and submissions used in MMA.

The Fundamentals course will be 12 parts, and we’ve designed it in such a way that you can start at any point during the 12 classes. Once you’ve completed your 12 sessions, you can join in on the other classes (Submission Wrestling, MMA Sparring, Clinch).

The course is as follows:

  1. Escaping the Headlock
  2. Attacks from Guard
  3. Passing the Guard
  4. Side Control – How to Hold
  5. Side Control – Submissions
  6. Side Control – How to Escape (Shrimping)
  7. Mount – The Armbar
  8. Escaping Mount
  9. Clinch – Underhooks
  10. Clinch – How to Shoot
  11. Clinch – How to Sprawl
  12. Crazy Monkey – Basic Stand Up Defence
  13. The Fundamentals Class will run on Mondays & Thursdays from 7pm-8pm.

    Members are more than welcome to come along to these classes and help out beginners if they want. From about 7.30pm each night the new guys will be rolling so if you’re down for that, you can help them get better whilst warming yourself up for the Sub Wrestling class.

    Since we’ve only from 7-8 on Thursday, you are free to train during the Fundamentals class. However, if it gets busy, I’ll ask you to help out with the new guys.
