Here’s a unique submission that doesn’t over rotate the shoulder. In fact, you are actually pulling the joint out of the shoulder socket in this one.

Underhooks are the mecca of wrestling, and anyone who gets proficient at using them and controlling their partner by their use, theirs in the clinch game and everything in it.
The underhook needs to be worked on a lot to get proficient at it, and so many people give up on it because they don’t have [...]
The seatbelt is a hold from behind your opponent where you place one hand over their shoulder and the other under their armpit, so your hands grasp diagonally across his chest (much like a seatbelt!)
When your opponent has his feet underneath your hips in guard, he has butterfly guard on you. There are two passes here. The first one is more technical, and may be harder to pull off. It may even be a bit dated at this stage. But it does show you patience, and a complete way [...]
The number one thing I shout at people when they’re trying to finish a triangle is “CONTROL THE HEAD”. If your head is forced down forward, you lose the ability to generate power, and it’s far easier to get caught in the triangle.
Learning decent, technical, reliable escapes to your opponent having double underhooks on you is a fundamenal skill to have in clinch.
Escape One
This is my preferred escape, as it’s low technical/skill requirement. Here, Ciaran has me with double unders and is looking mean.
The scissors sweep is a pretty easy and simple sweep to learn and execute.
Like nearly all sweeps, they require forward motion by your partner. In this case, Dan is pushing towards the left of the photo.
In the “basic” version, I place my right hand on Dan’s head and pull him down. An underhook can [...]
The arm triangle and the heart attack choke are two high percentage strangleholds that you can set up from a regular side control.
While there’s loads of cool set ups for the triangle, unusual finishes and substitutes out there, it’s the fundamentals which need to be sorted before anything else, and whenever a triangle fails, it’s down to the fundamentals.
The simplest way to set up a triangle is to push you’re opponents arm back into their chest. Here, [...]
The necktie, or Thai Clinch, is predominantly used in MMA for striking, with under/overhooks used for takedowns mainly. However, in sub wrestling, people will grab the back of your head a lot. This is mainly because it’s easier to grab someone’s head than get a decent underhook, and holding on to [...]
